To assure the safety of our students, parents
wishing to chaperone will be required to pass a background check.
Social Activities
We work very hard in class, and I believe it is important for the students to
interact and have fun, but not during class time. So I make sure we have plenty
of opportunities to make friends, especially in the beginning of the school
year. Saw Mill City and the Lock-In are the major activities that all the
students are involved in. There are more opportunities for the older students
such as Chicago and Cedar Point.
Saw Mill City $8.00-$11.00
In case of rain, this
activity will be canceled.
On a Saturday inSeptember as we have in the past, we will have a day for the
students to enjoy Saw Mill City . Located on Lapeer Rd next to the KOA Camp
grounds. We will have unlimited access to the Go-Carts, Putt Putt Golf,
Basket-Ball and other attractions from noon until 4:00PM. There will be an extra cost of
$3.00 for unlimited bumper boats, if available, and $5.00 to
use the new water slide if available. The trip is open to parents as well as
all band students. This is an excellent
opportunity to meet your child’s new friends. Transportation will not be
provided.
Band
Lock-in Nov 6, 2009
This will be held at Fort Gratiot. Cost is $6.00 and a can of food for the
needy.
The Lock-in is scheduled for Nov 6. The students will arrive at
Fort Gratiot at 8:00 pm and go home at 8:00 am Saturday morning. They play games, enjoy
refreshments, engage in planned and organized activities all night long, or just
sit and talk. The 8th grade does the planning and organizing. Parents will be
needed to work 4 hour shifts. It IS a lot of work, but when you see the
enjoyment these kids experience from this activity, it is all worth it. Cost per
student for services and refreshments is $6.00 and includes pizza.
The annual trip is currently being planned—Tentative dates March 25, 26, &
27, 2010. A parent meeting is planned for Tuesday 13th of October at 7:00 pm in the
band room to answer your questions and explain the
trip in more detail. We love to have parents travel with us, and I am sure you
are looking forward to spending a long weekend with our seventy-five 13 to 14
year old eighth grade band members in the windy city of Chicago. It really is a
great trip and one parents and students alike enjoy. The costs will be
$515 per student and about $100 more for adults. Fundraisers will help
to defray the personal cost. To assure the safety of our students, parents
wishing to travel with us will be required to pass a background check.
Generally planned for the last Wednesday in June, the
final reward trip of the year. We typically depart Fort
Gratiot about 6:30am and return about 10:00pm. The student's cost
this year is $72.00. We took 55 passenger motor coaches with DVD and
Video players, video screen spread throughout the motor coach. Air
conditioning is also available as needed as well as restrooms. The seats
tilt back a bit and each seat has it's own night light for reading.
Due to the size and nature of Cedar Point, the students will
NOT be under direct supervision while in the park.
We do have a check in time at 2:00pm as a safety precaution and to pass any
messages or schedule changes to the students incase of inclement weather.
